Angela Cabán Bio

Angela Cabán is the founder and president of The Finished Wall, a decorative arts and gilding studio based in New York City and Charleston, SC. Established in 1999 as The Finished Wall LTD. and later renamed, the firm is noted for unique artistic finishes in high-end commercial and residential spaces.

We specialize in both oil and water gilding, decorative finishes including: marbling, wood graining, Venetian plaster and bespoke pieces.

An artist trained in these century old techniques, some dating back to the Pre-Roman era, is rare; even more uncommon is an artist producing works in verre eglomise. The verre eglomise technique is water gilding on glass with decorative motifs engraved in reverse. Currently in America there are only a handful of artists capable of using this specialized art form which incorporates the use fine gold and other precious metals.

Ms. Cabán has been a guest lecturer at the Smithsonian and a guest lecturer and instructor for gilding and decorative painting at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Additionally Ms. Cabán has done restoration work on nationally registered historic properties: The Hudson Theatre and Old Westbury Gardens in New York. At the Hudson Theatre, Ms. Caban worked on pieces attributed to Louis Comfort Tiffany.
